Ladies

For the fairer sex of higher society efforts would have been made to continue with life, as it would have been before the war. During the war King Charles established his court in Oxford , and court society would have continued within the king’s capital.

The difference between the rich and poor would have been pronounced and this can clearly seen by the style of clothing and the fabrics worn. Dresses that laced from the back would have required a servant to assist with dressing. Also those of higher status wore their hair exposed, showing of the latest styles of dressing hair pinned-up and with ringlets.

Ladies would have indulged in the latest fashions including make-up. Which involved applying various strange and dubious substances, all in the cause of beauty.
